Can standard base pantones be used for food packaging?

The standard series can be used for secondary food packaging provided the substrate has confirmed barrier properties. What is the difference between base pantones and fade-resistant bases?

Base colors are designed to reproduce PMS shades through mixing — they have optimal color characteristics. Fade-resistant bases have enhanced lightfastness and are compatible with UV and water-based varnishing and lamination — they are chosen when the final product requires further processing or increased durability. Some standard base colors (Warm Red, Rhodamine, Purple, Violet, Blue 072, Reflex Blue) are not recommended for varnishing and lamination — fade-resistant bases should be used for such tasks.

Can varnish be applied over all base pantones?

Not all base colors are compatible with varnishing and lamination. Fade-resistant bases are specifically designed for subsequent UV or water-based varnish application and lamination — this is confirmed in the technical data sheet.
