How does a custom-mixed water-based pantone differ from a ready-made base color?

A ready-made base color is a standard shade from our range of concentrates, always in stock. A custom-mixed pantone is a unique color matched specifically to your PMS number or provided sample using a spectrophotometer. If you need a precise brand corporate color, this is exactly what a custom-mixed pantone is for.

Can the shade be adjusted by adding water?

No, water is only used to adjust viscosity to the working level on press, not to change color intensity. Color intensity is adjusted using the extender, not water. Adding excess water reduces pigment concentration and adhesive properties.

How long does it take for the pantone to fully cure on the material before further processing?

Water-based flexo ink dries through water evaporation and absorption into the substrate — full curing typically takes anywhere from a few hours to a full day, depending on coating density, material type, and shop conditions (temperature, humidity). For corrugated board and porous paper, drying occurs faster due to better absorbency. Before cutting, die-cutting, or laminating, make sure the ink is completely dry to the touch — a still-damp layer may smear or impair adhesion of the next coating. If in doubt about a specific print run, carry out a small test print first.
