Which category should I choose for ice cream or beverage cups?
For disposable cups with PE coating, choose the "Pantones for IML and Cups" category. This category is specifically designed for adhesion on the polyethylene layer and withstands storage conditions for both cold and hot beverages. If the cup comes into direct contact with food, please mention this when ordering so we can select the appropriate food-grade base.
Why do metallic pantones have a limited shelf life?
Metallic inks are supplied as two separate components — a metallic paste and a varnish — which are mixed immediately before printing. Once mixed, the blend remains usable for only 3 days, as the metal in the paste gradually loses its shine and activity upon contact with the varnish. That's why metallic pantones are produced for a specific print run and are not stored long-term.
Can a custom food-grade pantone be varnished with a standard varnish?
No, for food-grade pantones only a varnish with low residual odor and low migration is recommended — either a water-based varnish or a plant-based OPV. Using a standard varnish may compromise the food safety of the final product and cause set-off issues (ink transfer onto the back side of the next sheet).
What if the pantone is needed for oven baking?
For packaging of food products that require intense thermal exposure — such as oven baking or grilling — you must inform us of this when ordering. We will select a formulation that withstands up to 220°C for 80 minutes without risk of pigment migration. The standard food-grade series is designed for less intense heating — up to 140°C for 30 minutes.
