What does "379-free" mean and why is it critical for food pantones?
Substance 379 is a photoinitiator that was reclassified as CMR1 (carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic category 1) and added to the SVHC list. It is banned for food packaging. All our food-grade flexo pantones are produced using GIO-compliant (379-free) base inks, guaranteeing full compliance with the strictest current EU and Swiss requirements.
How much does a custom-mixed flexo pantone cost, and what determines the price?
The cost depends on the complexity of the shade, the required volume, and the base type (food-grade or non-food). Simple shades with few base colors cost less than complex, saturated colors that require more components. Send us the PMS number or a sample and indicate the approximate volume — we will prepare an exact cost estimate.
Is a hardener needed for food-grade flexo pantones?
A hardener at up to 4% is recommended for applications with increased adhesion requirements — primarily shrink sleeves and labels on demanding polyolefin substrates. After mixing, the two-component blend has a limited pot life — up to 6 hours, depending on temperature and humidity in the shop.
