Q&A
Which category should I choose for printing on tinplate (metal decorating)?
For printing on tinplate, use the "Pantones for Films and Synthetics" category — this series has confirmed suitability for metal decorating. A preliminary adhesion test must be carried out, as the result depends on the type of tinplate coating — white base coat or clear varnish. The "Cardboard and Luxury" category is not recommended for tinplate.
Is a hardener required for all food-grade UV pantones?
No, a hardener at up to 4% is primarily recommended for applications with increased adhesion requirements — particularly IML (in-mold labeling) and shrink sleeves. For standard self-adhesive labels, a hardener is usually not needed. Our colorists will determine the need for a hardener based on your specific substrate and application.
How does a custom-mixed UV pantone differ from a base UV pantone?
A base UV pantone is a standard shade from our ready-to-use range of base mixing system colors, which is always in stock. A custom-mixed pantone is a unique color produced specifically to match your PMS number or sample using a spectrophotometer. If you need a precise corporate brand color, this is exactly what a custom-mixed pantone is for.
Can I order a UV pantone for printing on PVC?
Yes, PVC is supported by three of our four categories — cardboard and luxury, film and foil, and flexible packaging. The choice of specific category depends on additional requirements — PVC thickness, further processing (stamping, lamination), contact with food products. Please provide application details when ordering for the correct selection.
